Classic/Antique Cars
There are few possessions in the world that can bring to you the joy created by your classic or antique car, especially if you’ve had it restored or done the work yourself. You understand the importance of auto insurance, and even more for your “baby”. This is why the need for Classic/Antique Auto Insurance is growing, and more and more companies are offering the coverage annually.
Your car does not need to be a Ford Model A to qualify for this coverage. In fact, most muscle cars, street rods, antique fire trucks, classic motorcycles and exotic cars may be considered under classic car coverage.

Qualifying for Classic/Antique Car Insurance
To qualify for this coverage, there are a few criteria that must be met, and still others that will affect both premium and policy. They are:
- Vehicle Usage – This refers to how much you use this vehicle. Most insurers of classic and antique cars will only allow the car to be used or driven on occasion, such as to club events, exhibitions, tours, and limited personal driving (like going out for a Sunday spin). An average tier for annual mileage is 2,500 miles, while some drivers opt for 5,000.
- Vehicle Storage – This reflects where the vehicle is stored when not in use. Most insurers require the antique or classic car to be kept in a fully enclosed, locked garage.
- Regular Use Vehicles – This is in reference to the vehicles which you normally drive to work, to run errands, etc. Most insurers will require you to have such a vehicle in addition to your classic car as well as an auto insurance policy (in the driver’s name) on the regular vehicle.
- Driving Record – While a minor traffic violation or two will not affect whether or not you will be able to purchase a Classic/Antique Car insurance policy, if you have a history of violations, accidents and/or DUI, the likelihood of your being approved for a policy is very slim.
