Commercial Vehicles
When a vehicle is driven for business purposes, it usually falls under the category of Commercial Vehicles. Usually, they transport goods and/or passengers for compensation, such as pizza delivery and florist vehicles. They can range in size from small (such as a taxi) to extra-large (such as a semi delivering stock to your local supermarket), as well as everything in between. Ice-cream trucks, ambulances, hot dog stands, snow plows and buses all fall into Commercial Vehicles.
Commercial Vehicle versus Personal Vehicle Insurance
Commercial vehicle insurance premiums are significantly different from personal vehicle insurance, possibly creating a significantly higher or lower premium. Reasons for this can include the commercial vehicle’s size and weight as they can differ significantly (like a moving hamburger stand compared to a four door sedan). Other factors are group discounts (insuring many lowers the cost) and even can be discounted when added on to a business insurance policy.
If you have a private vehicle which you use for commercial purposes, it will probably fall under the same category. Some states will have variations of the same vehicle, like small to mid-size trucks may all be considered commercial. If in doubt, be sure to contact your auto insurance agent.
