Auto Insurance for Male Drivers

For the most part, men and women look for, and desire, the same things in auto insurance: coverage that's designed around their particular lifestyle (what they drive, how often they drive, how many passengers/children they're responsible for, etc.); prompt and professional response in terms of filing claims, or any other inquiries; and, of course, adequate coverage at an affordable rate.

That being said, men will sometimes pay more for the same insurance policy than a woman would.

Discrepancies in Insurance Premiums between Men and Women

The one main argument over the differences between men and women comes down to different behavioral patterns among the sexes. Industry experts tend to agree with the theory that men (especially young males) tend to drive in a more aggressive manner than women do. Particularly, male drivers are more likely than women to break the law. Statistically, men are more likely than women to speed, not wear seatbelts, or drive while intoxicated.

These differences are more pronounced among young drivers. In fact, some industry analysts believe that the only time gender plays a role at all in determining an auto insurance rate is in the under-25 set. Male drivers between the ages of 16 and 25 pay a higher rate, almost across the board, because they present a greater risk than women do at the same age.

There are some other factors that come into play. Studies have also shown that men drive more often than women do, and drive more miles per year as well. Your marital status can also affect your insurance rate.
Accident rates are higher for singles, especially single males, and your rate will probably be a little higher if you're more of a swinging bachelor than a steady husband.

Added together, these widely acknowledged patterns add up to, at times, higher auto insurance rates for men than for women.
