Missouri Auto Insurance Requirements

As a resident of the state of Missouri, you are financially responsible for any damage or injury that you cause during an automobile accident. This makes Missouri a “Tort” state. You need to show proof of financial responsibility in order to drive a vehicle in the state by one of the following:

In addition, Missouri requires uninsured and under-insured motorist bodily injury insurance in the amount of 25/50 (see the chart below). These coverages help to pay your medical expenses in the event that you are struck by a driver without enough liability coverage to pay your bills.

Missouri drivers can purchase additional protection by increasing the limits on their uninsured and under-insured motorist bodily injury policies, as well as adding medical payments, collision and/or comprehensive to their current policies.
