During the 1970s, Audi marketed the 80 in the U.S. as the Audi Fox, and as the Audi 4000 during the 1980s. The Audi 80 came with several different engine options, including the fuel-injected E engine, a carburetor S engine, a D diesel, a TD turbo diesel, and a TDI turbocharged direct injection engine.
During the 1990s, the Audi 80 model sold in the U.S. (called the B4) underwent a redesign that included a longer wheelbase, new front grill, and lusher interior options. The front bumper of the 1990s Audi 80 was remade to conform to U.S. crash test standards and the headlights were also upgraded at that time. The Audi 80 was made at different times as a 2-door coupe, a 2-door convertible, a 4-door sedan, and a 4-door wagon (also know as the Avant).
Audi 80 insurance & safety features
Safety features on the Audi 80 vary according to the year the car was produced and the options chosen. Most Audi 80s made after 1988 came with a standard driver's side air bag and optional antilock brakes. The Audi 80 was built on a Volkswagen Passat platform, and was known for its excellent handling and reliable performance.
The age of the Audi 80 line makes safety features less of an issue for insurance purposes, but for its time the Audi 80 was considered to be a safe reliable business car and was extremely popular for that purpose.

Audi 80 and theft insurance
Theft insurance for the Audi 80 is optional. As a general rule of thumb, any automobile over ten years of age (with the exception of high performance vehicles, certain imports, and classic cars) is not usually worth insuring for theft and physical damage. The reason for this is that the payout after the deductible on such vehicles is usually very small, since insurance companies tend to total an older vehicle outright, rather than pay repair costs. On the other hand, insuring an Audi 80 for theft and/or vandalism, if you wish to have that coverage, should not be expensive.
