Find Out How Much Money You Can Save on Insurance!

BMW Z4 Insurance

The BMW Z4 roadster is the exactly kind of midlife crisis car that anyone of any age could easily crave – understandably so: The low-slung profile and zippy performance of the BMW Z4 are the classic characteristics of a hot sports coupe.

In the United States, two models of the Z4 are available:

  1. The sDrive30i includes with a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional traditional-style 6-speed automatic transmission.
  2. The sDrive35i comes standard with a twin-turbocharged direct-injection 3.0-liter straight six -cylinder 300hp engine. A 6-speed manual is standard on the sDrive35i, but an optional automatic is the 7-speed dual-clutch unit also debuted in the most recent generation of the BMW X4.

Inside, the X4 is as cool as you might expect it to be, and can be made even cooler with an optional $500 wood trim package.

BMW Z4 insurance and safety features

Automotive.com rates the cost of owning a BMW Z4 for five years as 'above average' at $60,402. That figure includes the cost of insurance, maintenance, repair, fuel, financing (interest and fees), and state fees and charges.

The Z4 itself comes with a base starting price of right around $43,000. A two-seater, soft-top sports car with a huge price tag and an engine to match is not the kind of thing that anyone purchases because of the safety features. Expect to pay premium rates to insure the Z4, and drive carefully, because any tickets or accidents on a Z4 driver's record are going to push insurance costs much, much higher.

The BMW Z4 and theft insurance

BMW has equipped the two-seater Z4 with a retractable aluminum-skinned hardtop, rather than a traditional fabric soft top; what's more, at this time BMW has no plans to add a fixed-roof Z4 coupe. What this means is that no amount of high tech antitheft upgrades can prevent the Z4 from being easy to break into and desirable to steal.

Chances are good that if you are attracted to the BMW Z4, then you already fully intend to baby it and keep it safely locked up and garaged whenever you are not driving it; measures such as this will indeed help control the cost of theft & damage insurance. Other ways to keep costs down include taking advantage of standard insurance discounts like multiple vehicle discounts, starting an affiliation with a professional association, and taking advantage of multiple policy discounts. It's highly recommended that you check out the cost of insurance, and then factor it into the cost of the car before you commit to purchase. Automotive Magazine lists the expected cost of BMW Z4 insurance to be around $138 a month, so it's a good idea to use this as a rough barometer when you're comparing plans.

Key Facts...
Almost two in three auto insurance shoppers used an online quote request in their most recent search. This contrasts with only 4% of auto insurance shoppers who purchased a policy at least five years ago. In 2009, one in every three consumers purchased a policy entirely online.
