Find Out How Much Money You Can Save on Insurance!

Dodge Caliber Insurance

The Dodge Caliber is one of those vehicles that seemed like a good idea at the time. Americans were started to express interest in smaller, crossover-style vehicles, and were avoiding fuel-guzzling SUVs for the first time since the 1970s. Small, wagon-style sedans have been popular in Europe for years, so it seemed reasonable that U.S. buyers would go for an affordable low-profile wagon in a big way – especially as gas tipped over $5 a gallon 2008.

Sadly, by the first half of 2009, the Dodge Caliber had the dubious distinction of being the worst-selling car in America. The Dodge Caliber comes with a variety of engine choices, including a performance model that start in the low 20s, but the Caliber doesn't really deliver anything incredible in terms of miles per gallon or speed, and the price isn't low enough to make its fuel economy a selling feature either.

One plus for the Dodge Caliber is its incredibly low insurance costs. At barely over $100 a month of expected premiums on average, according to Automobile Magazine, the Dodge Caliber is an excellent value in regards to auto insurance.

Dodge Caliber insurance and safety features

The Dodge Caliber receives 'good' ratings in front and side crash tests (the highest rating available from the IISA), and 'acceptable' ratings in leftover tests.  Driver's side crash tests resulted in a 'poor' rating which is bad news if you are driving the Caliber and are hit from the side at any speed. JD Powers gave the Caliber a rating of three (on a scale of five, with five as the best) overall, with general appeal rated at only two.

The Caliber's unimpressive safety features won't really help in keeping insurance lower than they are, but insurance costs will be the last of a Caliber buyer's worries. On the up-side, finding a Dodge Caliber at a very good price should not be difficult, so even if insurance costs are slightly higher than for comparable models some savings can still be realized.

The Dodge Caliber and theft insurance

Insurance costs for theft and physical damage on a Dodge Caliber are not going to be a major concern. The low replacement cost on the Caliber and the fact that theft of such vehicles is not a huge problem are both factors that will keep insurance costs under control.  Other ways to keep insurance costs down include taking advantage of association and group discounts, asking about good driver and multiple policy discounts, and shopping the rates so as to go with the best pricing. Checking out the cost of insurance is a good idea before buying any new car.

Key Facts...
Almost two in three auto insurance shoppers used an online quote request in their most recent search. This contrasts with only 4% of auto insurance shoppers who purchased a policy at least five years ago. In 2009, one in every three consumers purchased a policy entirely online.
