Ford Focus Insurance
The first Ford Focus was introduced into the U.S. in 1999, and since then, it has garnered an international following – taking the title for the 40th best automotive nameplate worldwide, and selling over 5 million units. It also is purported to be one of the ten best selling cars in America, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Despite the fact that certain intrepid experimenters have managed to install a V8 kit into the Ford Focus, the standard 2010 model comes with a 4-cylinder engine. The real benefit of the Focus comes in its affordability and safety. According to U.S. News and World Report, the Ford Focus was the 18th most affordable small car out of 37.

Costs and consideration of Ford Focus insurance
As an owner of a Ford Focus, or someone who is considering purchasing one, you'll be happy to know that the Focus scores extremely well with the insurance industry. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) found that the Ford Focus performed better than 19 other top models of small vehicles, including the Toyota Prius, when it came to vehicle collision costs. The results showed that the Ford Focus costs a full two-thirds less than the estimated cost of $4,000 per incident for the Toyota Prius and the Volkswagon Rabbit.
"Ford has some of the most affordable vehicles in terms of collision insurance costs by nearly any measure, not to mention the most IIHS Top Safety Picks," Susan Cischke, Ford group vice president of Sustainability, Environmental and Safety Engineering said.
Ford Focus safety and insurance
In NHTSA crash testing, both the Ford Focus hatchback and sedan did well in most tests, the Focus unfortunately scored a "meager" three star rating for side impacts, which is the lowest score in NHTSA studies. In frontal offset testing (conducted by the IIHS), the Focus earned a perfect "five-star" rating. Much like the NHTSA study, the IIHS study found that side impacts only earned an "acceptable" rating.
All models come with advanced dual-stage front airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners for front occupants and three-point belts in all five seating positions. Optional safety equipment includes side airbags, antilock brakes and traction control (standard on the ST). In 2009, the Ford Focus also included an antiskid system.
Ford Focus features
The Ford Focus has been freshened for the 2005 model year. Ford offers the Focus in four body styles: a three-door ZX3 hatchback, a five-door ZX5 hatchback, a ZX4 sedan and a ZXW wagon. The hatchbacks and sedan come in three basic trim levels -- S, SE and SES -- while the wagon is available in SE and SES trims only. Additionally, an ST sedan is available for buyers seeking a sportier Focus.
- S – Comes standard with a 2 L DOHC 20 I-4 engine; a new low-emissions engine is optional. Includes basics like a CD player, 15-inch steel wheels and black exterior trim.
- SE – Comes standard with a 2 L DOHC 20 I-4 engine; a new low-emissions engine is optional. Adds upgraded suspension tuning; power windows, locks and mirrors; keyless entry; air conditioning; a CD/MP3 player; and an overhead console.
- SES – Comes standard with a 2 L DOHC 20 I-4 engine; a new low-emissions engine is optional. Includes 16-inch alloy wheels, foglamps, body-color exterior trim, a CD/MP3 changer, cruise control, tachometer and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel.
- ST – This top-line trim option is for the sedan only and adds four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and traction control, a performance-tuned suspension, sport seats and distinctive trim inside and out. The new 2.3 Duratec 23 DOHC engine is standard on the Focus ST series.
