Find Out How Much Money You Can Save on Insurance!

Ford Probe Insurance

The Ford Probe was introduced to the U.S. Market in 1988, with the initial intention of it replacing the Ford Mustang line of cars. That did not happen. What did happen was a line of cars that was built on one of the first international alliances between Detroit and Japan. The last Probe was made in 1997. A two-door hatchback, which was short-lived but also sleek and stylish, is how many have come to think of this automobile.

Ford Probe features and ratings

Consumer Guide's rating of the 1993 – 1997 generation of the Ford Probe is 48 out of 100. There are a number of bright points, though, and they happen to be ones that may appeal to the same class of individuals who helped sustain the Ford Probe through its generation. Among the highest rated categories by Consumer Guide Automotive are "performance" and "rating within class." Both of these were rated a seven out of possible ten, which are obviously not shabby at all.

Keeping in mind that Consumer Guide test drove a GT model of the Probe, some of the highlights included the driver being impressed with acceleration. Also notable are the varying comments on space. It may depend on whether you are expecting sports car room or sedan room, but reviewers have described the Ford Probe as being roomy with ample cargo space, while others described it as somewhat cramped.

Standard in all Probes is a driver side airbag. The base model included a 4-cylinder engine, while the GT ran on a 2.5-liter V6. The brakes were different to compensate for the performance difference in the models as well. The base model used rear wheel drums while the GT had all disc braking.

Ford Probe safety and insurance risk

Steering, braking and handling were all rated as "six" by Consumer Guide. That is for the GT, but there are some features in all probes that lent to improved safety for drivers. Among the top features was nearly incomparable visibility. The Ford Probe was of the last generation of vehicles that consistently had glass that wrapped around nearly the entire vehicle.

It should be taken into consideration that this coupe is a sporty one, especially in the GT model. That will surely impact insurance rates. But with standard driver side airbags, and the other aforementioned safety contributions to the car that were drawn from international teams and histories the car offers, the driver has ample opportunity to practice safe operation – and also receive the lowest insurance rates!
