Tape/CD Coverage
Another way to protect your valuable music system is adding on optional Tape/CD coverage to your auto insurance policy. This coverage will pay you for your collection in the unfortunate event that your tapes and/or CDs are either damaged by an accident or stolen out of your car. This coverage is in addition to your current comprehensive and collision auto policy.
Tape/CD Coverage is not available with all insurance companies, but the demand for companies to offer this option is indeed growing. Therefore, be sure to check with your insurance provider as to whether or not they offer it, what the additional cost will be, and whether your deductible will be the same as your basic collision and/or comprehensive coverage.

Is Tape/CD Coverage Right for You?
Let’s say that your car is broken into. The thief stole your aftermarket stereo system and all 20 CDs in your car at the time. If your CDs’ average price is $15, your replacement cost for all 20 would be $300. If your deductible is $250, you will be responsible to pay the first $250 of the $300 replacement cost.
But if you keep your entire collection of 1,000 CDs in your vehicle, a $250 deductible is well worth the $15,000 replacement cost.
As with any optional auto insurance policy of this nature, you will need to keep your receipts (with title and artist) for tapes and CD’s you keep in your car, as insurance companies will not take your word for it.
