Vermont Auto Insurance Requirements

In the auto insurance industry, Vermont is considered to be a “Tort” state, which means that every licensed driver in the state is financially responsible for any and all property damages and personal injuries caused by an accident for which they are at fault.

Vermont’s laws for the minimum levels of auto insurance are as follows:

  • Liability insurance with limits of 25/50/10 (see the chart below).
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage with limits of 50/100/10 (see the chart below). This policy helps cover expenses in the event that you are struck by a motorist with inadequate liability insurance or no liability insurance at all.

Please note that these levels are the minimums.

For added protection, Vermont drivers may purchase one or more optional add-ons to their policy, such as collision, comprehensive, or medical payments coverage.

Key Facts...
Almost two in three auto insurance shoppers used an online quote request in their most recent search. This contrasts with only 4% of auto insurance shoppers who purchased a policy at least five years ago. In 2009, one in every three consumers purchased a policy entirely online.
